John Pegram, was born to Willie and Rosa Pegram, August 20, 1944 in Franklin, VA. He is the youngest of 8 siblings. During his early years, he attended schools in Dinwiddie County, VA, but graduated from Henrico County Public Schools. John's love for music began at an early age as he sang in church as well as in his school's choir. During his early teens, he took an interest in the guitar and taught himself to play. A few years later, he moved to Ohio and soon joined a band called The Mike Hollie Band. Over the next several years, he continued to develop his skill and talent for the guitar. He met many musicians and was able to further his talent for music and performing live on stage. In 1970, John returned to Virginia and began performing with Stacy Henry and the Majestic Band and Show group. They backed several well-known artists, including Betty Wright, Jerry Butler, Millie Jackson, Tyrone Davis, and Jackie Wilson, to name a few. A few years later, John formed his own band, called Sunnyside High. After the group ended in 1975, John focused his attention to playing in church. He also spent some alone time woodshedding and mastering his craft. In 1986, he wrote and produced his first album titled, Freshen Up America. Since that time, John has written and produced over 100 songs. He also wrote and published a fictional book about a young boy who chases his dreams of becoming a musician, titled Slug the Dream Chaser.
Currently, John resides in Petersburg, VA where he continues to live in his passion for music by writing and producing as well as serving as a dedicated church musician.
